The Beginning

Dayton was born and raised on the island of Oahu.  In 1998 he had his first Slack Key guitar lesson with Bobby Moderow Jr. (from the Hoku Award winning group Maunalua).  As soon as Dayton started learning Slack Key, it became his passion.  After taking lessons for one year, Bobby asked him to help teach.  While teaching private lessons, Dayton also got hired to teach Slack Key at LCC for several years.

Dayton learned standard tuning on his own, from friends, books, and the internet.  He now plays and sings a huge variety of music- everything from Slack Key/Traditional Hawaiian, to John Mayer, Jack Johnson, Eric Clapton, Cat Stevens, James Taylor, Bobby Caldwell, Michael Jackson, & Bob Marley to name a few.  Since 2008, Dayton has been playing full-time at various venues.  He is currently playing regularly at Roy’s Restaurant Hawaii Kai.  The Great thing about Hawaii is that people love live music at every event- Weddings and Rehearsal Dinners, Baby 1st Luau, Company Parties, Graduation, Birthday’s, Christmas Parties, just about anything you can think of.  Because of his strong passion for music, Dayton is constantly learning new music.  You can find him playing around town in the live music scene, enjoying every minute of it!
